BUILDING
A COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS
ONE BRICK AT A TIME
Our Classroom is decorated around a construction theme.
The emphasis is on building literacy, math, and social skills
according to your child's IEP goals. Our construction theme is a reminder that
good planning, hard work,
and getting along with each "crew member" is the foundation for success!

Question
of the day. Ask your child about the question of the day.It is a great jumping off place for conversation! This is how students transition into my classroom. The students learn to read question words such as who, what,
and why. Many of the questions introduce new words that expand their reading and speaking vocabularies. This year I will be adding some tougher questions Monday, March 8
Did you enjoy your three day weekend? Tuesday, March 9 Can you give two reasons why the snow has been melting?
Wed, March 10
Is Egypt in the northern or southern hemisphere? Thurs., March 11 Would you like to see a mummy? Friday, March 12
Would you like to be an Egyptian pharoah?

Reading Fluency We are always
working on our reading fluency. Increased fluency leads to increased
reading comprehension.
A Hot Read Score: The number of words read per minute (wpm) on a practice piece. A Cold Read Score: The number of words read per minute (wpm) on a new piece. Reading with and to your child is important. Rereading a favorite story to them or having them reread to you is a great way to build
fluency. In class
we use: Read Naturally timed reading passages, choral reading, reader's theater, and partner reading to increase our
fluency: rate, expression, accuracy, and phrasing.
